Ultra-quiet, modular system delivers 90kW to 540kW


Mitsubishi Electric has launched a range of advanced, inverter-driven chillers to the UK market.







The unique shape and modular design of the e-series chiller range means that the system can be constructed with up to six individual units connected together. 

Features include:

·         High efficiency and control
·         In-built header pipes
·         Low noise levels
·         Reduced plant space
·         Wide operating range







Units will be held in stock available for on-site delivery, rather than having to be built to order.

The e-series chillers range will be available as cooling-only, heating/cooling and heating-only models. Units will be available for delivery from August 2015.

Daikin Air Conditioning announces the introduction of the EWAD~CZ air-cooled inverter chiller range

Daikin Europe N.V. announces the introduction of the EWAD~CZ air-cooled inverter chiller range with the highest ESEER in the market – up to 6* – making it an extremely cost-effective solution for use in comfort and other applications where a top level chiller in terms of performance and reliability is needed.

Highest partial load efficiency: ESEER up to 6*
The use of inverter driven screw compressors in the EWAD~CZ range allows the units to achieve the highest partial load efficiency scores in their class (ESEER up to 6*), making it ideal for systems with variable load requirements such as comfort applications. The high partial load efficiency of these solutions allows substantially reduced CO2 emissions and decreased annual operating costs, hence much quicker system payback times.
The use of inverter technology also contributes to quieter sound levels and precise chiller water temperatures, as well as lower starting current requirements, optimum power factors (always above 0.95), a reduction of water tanks for the hydraulic system and increased reliability thanks to fewer compressor start-ups and shut downs.

Innovative technology
Inverter control is complemented by a host of other advanced features such as a patented single screw compressor, and ultra efficient fans with a patented blade profile for quiet operation. Moreover, the Microtech III controller allows easy control of parameters, and a wide range of system integration solutions are supported including LonWorks and BACnet.

Wide range of options
The Daikin EWAD~CZ units operate in ambient temperatures from -18°C to +50°C, with leaving water temperatures from -8°C to +15°C. The new range is available in standard, low and reduced sound models and the extensive list of options includes heat recovery and fan speed regulation (which results in an ESEER up to 6*).
The addition of the new range makes the Daikin Europe N.V. screw inverter chiller portfolio the largest in the market. The new EWAD~CZ range fills in the top of the segment with capacities from 635 kW to 1.800 kW, the highest cooling capacity available in this market today.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has received an order for 14 large-size centrifugal chillers

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has received an order for 14 large-size centrifugal chillers with a total cooling capacity of 29,300 refrigeration tons for a large-scale district cooling system in Qatar.

Ordered for the Heart of Doha regeneration project, the orders are the first centrifugal chiller order for the company for Qatar, and delivery is planned for June this year, with work to be completed in the summer of 2012.

The units will be the company’s AART-200EX chillers, and will be installed in two locations of six and eight units, to provide district cooling from two points.

The Heart of Doha project aims to develop and revitalise a 35-hectare site in front of the Royal Palace of Qatar into an area that will encompass public offices, hotels, high-quality commercial facilities and residential zones. The project is being carried out by Dohaland, an organisation established by the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development in 2007.

Qatar has been promoting diversification of its industries in a quest to depart from heavy dependence on oil and natural gas and focus efforts on cultural, educational and broadcasting fields. Also, having been selected to serve as host country for the FIFA World Cup in 2022, the country is now undergoing a boom in construction of various large facilities. This activity is expected to fuel demand for air-conditioning systems over the medium and long term.

The AART-200EX achieves the world's highest level of rated COP (coefficient of performance)2, 6.4 3, and uses HFC-134a, a chlorine-free and zero ozone depletion potential (ODP) refrigerant. Dohaland is targeting the project to achieve ‘platinum, the highest rating in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification, which is a rating standard devised by the U.S. Green Building Council for environmentally friendly buildings.

The British companies behind the development of the first chillers to run on the new "fourth generation" HFO refrigerants are forging ahead with their plans despite claims from Danfoss Turbocor that its compressor has not been validated to use with these new gases.

Our story on this ground-breaking development was the talk of this week's ASHRAE conference and AHR show in Las Vegas, with some people there questioning the truth and accuracy of our information.
Doug Bishop, vice-president of sales at Danfoss Turbocor, manufacturers of the oil-less compressor used in the new Turbomiser chiller, told ACR News that his company did not offer an HFO1234ze or 1234yf compressor. But, today, Klima-Therm and Cool-Therm, the British companies who developed the chiller in association with Italian manufacturer Geoclima, stood by the story.
A company statement said: "We understand that Danfoss Turbocor has not yet given an official green light for use of HFOs with Turbocor. However, this is a rapidly developing area, and there is sometimes a lag between those pioneering the application of new technology and those carrying out detailed validation. We believe this will follow in the normal course of events, and that HFOs will become established as a long term viable option for the future."
However, a spokesman for the companies did add that is now thought that HFO1234yf may not be suitable for use with the current generation of Turbomiser machines, due to the particular properties of the refrigerant. He would not be drawn on what these were but said that development work in this area continues.

Daikin air conditioning oil-free centrifugal chiller range for increased energy efficiency and reliability

Daikin Europe N.V. announces the launch of EWWD~FZ, a new centrifugal chiller range that uses oil-free compressors featuring magnetic bearings. This compressor technology not only eliminates the need for oil as lubricant and the associated maintenance and reliability issues, but also contributes to making this range one of the most energy efficient on the market.

Oil-free operation improves reliability and efficiency

Oil-free magnetic bearings allow for a simplified design and increased reliability. Friction is eliminated, as is the need for additional devices such as oil pumps, resulting in reduced maintenance and greater reliability. Vibration and sound levels are also reduced significantly, allowing the units to be used in sound sensitive environments.

The magnetic bearing system and other technologies present in the oil-free compressor make it one of the most efficient compressors on the market today. Moreover, the compressor’s integrated variable frequency drive, together with a flooded type evaporator, provides outstanding partial load efficiency, adding to the energy savings (EER up to 6.0 and ESEER up to 9.60). Integrated soft start functionality also greatly reduces start-up current requirements.

Broad range of industrial applications

The EWWD~FZ range is available in 6 sizes (single circuit, 1 or 2 compressors) with cooling capacities from 320 to 1,050 kW. The units include on-board monitoring and diagnostics, and can be easily integrated with external control systems such as building management systems and sequencing panels. The units are available with a variety of options making them suitable for a broad range of requirements and applications.

Unit Frame : Modular self-supporting frame in galvanised sheet steel with baked-on polyester powder coating (colour RAL 5014) and threaded fasteners in stainless steel.

Compressors: Hermetic scroll compressors connected in parallel (tandem or trio configuration). Equipped with crankcase heater, thermal protection, liquid line sight glass, contactors and oil equalisation line.

Refrigerant Circuit: The circuit includes: liquid line shut-off valve, charge connection, liquid line sight glass, filter dryer, electronic expansion valve, safety valve, pressure transducers to relay information on high and low pressure values and relative condensing and evaporating temperatures for display on the controller, high and low pressure switches.

Evaporator: Brazed plate with antifreeze protection and mechanical flow switch.

Condenser: Composed of high efficiency coils in “V” execution.

Fans: Axial fan directly coupled to 6-pole motors, thermal overload protection and safety guard.

Electrical Panel: With main switch, power and control circuit protection and fans. Microprocessor control with function display.

Testing: Units are factory-tested and shipped complete with refrigerant charge and oil.

TETRIS /HP: Reverse cycle heat pump In addition to the components featured on TETRIS, this model includes: liquid receiver, 4-way reversing valve. Reverse cycle defrost function (with independent activation on both circuits) in accordance with Blue Box logic, patent no. 1335232, to optimise defrost cycle operation and duration to obtain an overall increase in the efficiency of the unit.

HYDRAULIC MODULE OPTIONS TETRIS /ST 3PS: In addition to the components featured on TETRIS, this model includes: insulated storage tank, three water pumps, expansion vessel, check valves and gate valve. (available from 27.4 to 93.12).

TETRIS /ST 2PS: In addition to the components featured on TETRIS, this model includes: insulated storage tank, two water pumps (with cyclic rotation and automatic changeover in the case of faults), expansion vessel, check valves and gate valve. (from 10.2 to 24.3).

TETRIS /ST 1PS: Unlike model TETRIS /ST 2PS, this unit features only one pump.

TETRIS /ST 3P: Unlike model TETRIS /ST 3PS, this unit is not fitted with storage tank (available from 27.4 to 93.12).
