Killing the Coronavirus: Is it possible? What is the ideal temperature to kill the virus?:

The outbreak in China is a serious world health situation and of extreme concern to us all. The Wuhan Coronavirus is presenting many local health problems, becoming more deadly, killing, spreading and infecting indiscriminately on a daily basis seemingly without age limits. With the main concern now being human to human transmission we believe that certain areas including treatment rooms, medical areas and quarantine rooms where high traffic of infected can spread the virus at a more rapid rate It maybe beneficial to heat treat the infected areas to absolutely kill any threat.

If the area is heat treated above 60 Degrees Centigrade for over 30 mins it is possible to decontaminate an area rapidly and effectively kill the Coronavirus. We have used a heat treatment for many years now to deal with infestations and infection in cruise ships, hotels, subways and accommodation blocks where an infected area requires a definitive kill. Is it possible that the Coronavirus can live above 60 Degrees Centigrade? The information is not out there yet for a definitive answer. Relating the SARS virus to the Coronavirus the below is a well written and informative article related to the SARS-CoV virus, In it the article states that heat treatment requires the temperature to reach 60 °C over 30 min to bring virus titer below the detection limit. Please leave you opinions below.

Sensitivity of SARS-CoV to temperature has also been assayed. The exposure of the virus to a temperature of 56 °C over 30 min reduced virus titer under an undetectable level, except if SARS-CoV is associated with proteins, such as 20% fetal calf serum (FCS), which bring a protection for the virus. In this case, the temperature needs to reach 60 °C over 30 min to bring virus titer below the detection limit. This emphasizes the importance of organic material in which viruses could be embedded in the real conditions and could protect the virus, mostly from disinfection procedures. When the virus was placed at 4 °C, there was no loss of infectivity []. Another study confirms the viral stability at 4 °C, and also at 20 °C and 37 °C for at least 2 hrs, but SARS-CoV lost its infectivity after 90, 60 and 30 min exposure at 56 °C, 67 °C and 75 °C, respectively [].

The product we have always used is the following:

High Temp Electric Heater Plus 60 Degree Centigrade Output FFHT32 With Remote Thermostat 18Kw/60000Btu 415V~50Hz

High Temperature Heater 60 Degree Centigrade

The FFHT32 high temperature heater is built to operate at temperatures above +60C. Manufactured and designed in the UK the FFHT32 high temp heater has been designed and tested to heat an area to a designated temperature of up to +60C. Manufactured from high quality, high temperature components the FFHT32 comes complete with a remote thermostat "option" so the user has the option of monitoring temperature from outside the heated area (see image 2).

The FFHT32 heater is defined by its large heat output, whisper quiet operation combined with a unrivaled durability you would expect from Broughton. The all new FFHT32 High Temp heaters are powerful industrial electric fan heaters capable of ducting long distances and delivering high volume airflows with a delta T of +75 k, or even holding a room at 60 Deg C.

As with all Broughton heaters they are made to take the knocks of day to day site use making them ideal for use in factories or at events. This series is particularly suited for pest control such as the issue of bed bugs in hotels etc. Bed bugs have become a serious issue for some hotels and recent studies have shown that heat treatment is a good long term solution for bed bugs.
