Daikin Air Conditioning identified as global innovator

Daikin Industries is included among the leaders in the Thomson Reuters Top 100 Global Innovators for 2011. The award is given to companies considered top innovators based on an objective and scientific analysis of global patent information.

The Top 100 Global Innovators report applies a methodology developed by Thomson Reuter to measure innovation from an unbiased and scientific perspective via a critical analysis of patent information.

Criteria include the volume of patents obtained and the global reach of these patents as well as the influence the patents have on other companies. In general, the analysis focuses on patents that have contributed to true innovation (in Daikin's case, new technologies) over the last three years.

The report also makes the link between innovation and economic growth and the Top 100 Global Innovators for 2011 were also considered world leaders in job creation, revenue creation, R&D investment and share performance.

Global Top 100 Innovator status confirms the Daikin in-house programme of promoting and rewarding innovation that contributes to its business, as well as its ethical stance of respecting the property rights of others and protecting its own inventions as important assets to ensure that the best products reach the market.

Daikin to build largest air conditioner plant in China - The Mainichi Daily News

Daikin to build largest air conditioner plant in China - The Mainichi Daily News: "Daikin to build largest air conditioner plant in China

OSAKA (Kyodo) -- Daikin Industries Ltd. will build its largest air conditioner plant in China's Jiangsu Province, company sources said Thursday.

The annual production capacity of the new plant, to be constructed at a site where Daikin operates another plant, will be 1.5 million units, the sources said.

Daikin will invest about 18 billion yen and hire some 4,000 local employees for the new plant scheduled to start operations in April 2012, they said.

The Osaka-based company, which forecasts growing sales of air conditioning equipment, mainly in emerging countries, aims to chalk up consolidated sales of 2 trillion yen in fiscal 2015.

The company is focused on the fast-growing Chinese market, and aims to expand production and sales there by building the new plant.

Daikin Air conditioning send deepest condolences to the people of Japan.

March 15, 2011
Subject: Tragedy in Japan
Dear Daikin AC Business Partners:
On behalf of Daikin AC, we would like to send our deepest condolences to the people of Japan, particularly those who have lost loved ones in the earthquake and tsunamis. We are grateful to the people of the world for their friendship and alliance with Japan which is unwavering and will only strengthen as we work toward overcoming this tragedy. Since Friday while in Japan, Daikin AC’s executive team has received daily updates from Daikin Industries executives, including CEO Inoue. We are very fortunate to report that no Daikin employees have been injured or killed by the disaster. Daikin Industries has one factory in the Tokyo area (Kashima factory, Chemicals Division) that has experienced power outages. The Shiga plant and Kanaoka plants located on the west side of Japan (Air Conditioning division producing RA/QA and VRV) were not affected by the disaster and no interruptions of operation have occurred.
The Umeda Center Building, Daikin Industries’ headquarters in Osaka, did experience swaying from the earthquake last Friday although no damage has been reported to the building.
Daikin products available in North America are produced in various parts of the world. In fact, Daikin AC supported products have origins of Japan, China, Thailand, Belgium, and the United States. Please know that our supply chain will be working with all factories to ensure timely product availability. All product shipping via ocean from Japan ships from Kobe, which has already re-started their operations.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Japan as they endure this tragedy. If you are looking for ways to help, please consider donating to the Japanese Red Cross Society via the link to the American Red Cross at www.redcross.org (click on Donate Funds button) or through other reputable charitable organizations. We will keep you informed of any new developments as they are reported. Your continued support and
sincere concern is appreciated.

Thank you.
Sincerely,

Fuel Cell Micro CHP units have the edge over Air Source heat pump options

Fuel Cell Micro CHP units have the edge over Air Source heat pump options

With the introduction over the next few years of the micro CHP unit based on fuel cells where the unit combines heating the building with electricity production the heating market is on the cusp of a whole new technology and combining of building trades.

BlueGen is the latest breakthrough in small scale electricity generation - a modular style fuel cell generator that can be configured to suit a range of different markets and installations. For markets that require an alternative product approach to fully-integrated 'European style' systems, such as Japan, Northern America and Australia - BlueGen™ bridges that gap.

The Bluegen comes with
the added bonus of sell back to the grid incentives such as the MCS in the UK. Germany offers incentive to buy the new fuel cell units as well as sell back to the grid incentives. The fuel cell units need a natural gas supply where the Air source heat pumps require electricity and produce heat from the outside air with operating ranges down to -20 DegC. In very cold weather they do have their limitations.
