Daikin Air Conditioning announces the introduction of the EWAD~CZ air-cooled inverter chiller range

28/02/2011)

Daikin Europe N.V. announces the introduction of the EWAD~CZ air-cooled inverter chiller range with the highest ESEER in the market – up to 6* – making it an extremely cost-effective solution for use in comfort and other applications where a top level chiller in terms of performance and reliability is needed.

Highest partial load efficiency: ESEER up to 6*
The use of inverter driven screw compressors in the EWAD~CZ range allows the units to achieve the highest partial load efficiency scores in their class (ESEER up to 6*), making it ideal for systems with variable load requirements such as comfort applications. The high partial load efficiency of these solutions allows substantially reduced CO2 emissions and decreased annual operating costs, hence much quicker system payback times.
The use of inverter technology also contributes to quieter sound levels and precise chiller water temperatures, as well as lower starting current requirements, optimum power factors (always above 0.95), a reduction of water tanks for the hydraulic system and increased reliability thanks to fewer compressor start-ups and shut downs.

Innovative technology
Inverter control is complemented by a host of other advanced features such as a patented single screw compressor, and ultra efficient fans with a patented blade profile for quiet operation. Moreover, the Microtech III controller allows easy control of parameters, and a wide range of system integration solutions are supported including LonWorks and BACnet.

Wide range of options
The Daikin EWAD~CZ units operate in ambient temperatures from -18°C to +50°C, with leaving water temperatures from -8°C to +15°C. The new range is available in standard, low and reduced sound models and the extensive list of options includes heat recovery and fan speed regulation (which results in an ESEER up to 6*).
The addition of the new range makes the Daikin Europe N.V. screw inverter chiller portfolio the largest in the market. The new EWAD~CZ range fills in the top of the segment with capacities from 635 kW to 1.800 kW, the highest cooling capacity available in this market today.

Hitachi Air Conditioning Group has added a compact single fan unit to its range of Yutaki-M air-source heat pumps

Hitachi Air Conditioning Group has added a compact single fan unit to its range of Yutaki-M air-source heat pumps.

It incorporates all of the leading energy-efficient and cost-effective benefits of the MCS-approved Yutaki-M range and is only 800 mm high. Yutaki-M converts 1 kW consumption into 4 kW output and is capable of producing water temperatures of up to 60 deg C.

Available from 5 kW to 17 kW, the Yutaki-M range can reduce CO2 emissions in domestic and commercial settings by up to 50 per cent compared with boiler-led systems. It also integrates seamlessly with different types of heating systems such as traditional radiators and underfloor heating.

May Fair Hotel has been playing host to the rich and famous uses Daikin Air Conditioning

How often have you woken up after a night in an inner city hotel, with that 'stuffy' feeling that you have had an uncomfortable sleep, deprived of fresh air? It's not always possible or practicable to open windows as traffic and other noises are too intrusive. Hotel air conditioning cannot always solve the problem either - it may be too noisy anyway, but most older hotels did not make suitable provision for fresh air supply to guest rooms and this is where the cause of an uncomfortable night's sleep commonly stems. One prestigious London hotel group turned to Space Airconditioning plc the Daikin Air Conditioning Distributor to address this problem.

Set in exclusive Mayfair in the heart of London, the May Fair Hotel has been playing host to the rich and famous since its historic opening by His Majesty King George V in 1927. Refurbishing and extending the May Fair was technically a highly demanding undertaking, not least for Space Airconditioning plc, the Guildford-based Daikin Distributor who were nominated to supply the new Daikin air conditioning for the entire project.

At the very earliest stages of the design, it was established that there would be full air conditioning - heating, cooling and ventilation to all bedrooms, as well as all occupied staff areas, all affiliated premises including shops, cafes and the adjacent Casino - and to all lavatories.

From the outset, extra low noise levels were considered a priority to ensure the ambiance expected in a 5 star hotel environment. Energy efficiency was also vital, not only from an operational viewpoint but also because electrical power supplies are at a premium in this part of the West End.

Finally the air conditioning installations were required to be fully compliant with current regulation. A ninth floor was added to the front elevation of the hotel to create a penthouse suite - the second largest and one of the most luxurious and expensive in London.

To facilitate the fresh air ventilation requirements Space Air designed bespoke composite air handling units, combining large (FXMQ) Daikin Ducted fan coil units and Daikin's VAM heat recovery ventilation modules.

These roof-mounted, fully weatherproofed units were prefabricated at Space Air's Guildford factory. The units ensured that the mix of fresh air and return air did not exceed 1ºC over set-point and the Daikin I-Manager controls would hold off operation of the VAM section until the room set-point was reached and maintain the 7-8°k room/ambient differential.

The ceiling height in the luxurious penthouse suite was lower than originally designed due to a planning restriction on the overall height of the hotel; this required a more innovative solution. Daikin Chassis type VRV floor mounted fan coil units were concealed in an partition wall, separating the large lounge and dining areas from other facilities and the interior designer selected purpose made linear grilles to create a feature. The fresh air for this area was supplied by 2 roof mounted Daikin VKMG units, again with weatherproofing manufactured and factory fitted by Space Air.

The design concept ensuring optimum environment control including adequate fresh air to the guest rooms has proved to be a great success and the model has now been extended to other hotels within the group.

Thinking of getting office Air conditioning??

Office Air conditioning recommendations.

When installing air conditioning in a office it is worth buying a quality unit. Cheaper units lack control features that commercial air conditioning systems have as standard. For example a 24Hr/7day timer so when your office is not occupied, the air conditioning is not running costing you money. Quality systems have superior mode settings for heat / cool / fan / dehumidify / auto. Cheap systems lack automatic feature which lets you set the temperature and the unit will change between heat and cool automatically which is important in office air conditioning systems. Most commercial office air conditioning systems have 3 years warranty and because they have a higher coefficient they usually have a ECA listing (air conditioning heat pumps only). Inverter units are recommended for daily usage.

Fixed speed or Inverter office air conditioning?

Inverter air conditioners are not new to the air conditioning industry having been around for +10 years now. The technology has now been miniaturised and manufacturing costs have fallen to make the technology more affordable for the air conditioning industry. An inverter air conditioning system controls the compressor electronically by altering the hertz (frequency). i.e - if the area to be air conditioned requires 50% power of the air conditioners compressor as it is close to reaching desired temperature, the invert will reduce the frequency to 25Hz (UK 50hertz ) thus running the air conditioner compressor at 50% without a need to shut the air conditioner compressor off. It makes for a air conditioner with close control on temperature and reduces electrical requirements by in some cases 60% as there is no inductive load. For server room air conditioning it is advised to use inverter air conditioning. The simple fact is that you will save within the first year of use the money you spent initially on the equipment. Hyper-inverter and power inverter air conditioning have cop's close to 5 time input power so they where possible should be used to reduce your electricity bill as well as CO2 usage.
