The phase out of using R22-R is looming for the UK and Europe

The phase out of using R22-R is looming for the UK and Europe

The phase out of using R22-R is looming for the UK and Europe

As of Midnight on the 31/12/2014 we will see the end of the use of Reclaimed R22 and other Reclaimed HCFC’s. As of 1st January 2015 it will become illegal to use Reclaimed R22, or other Reclaimed HCFC’s for servicing refrigeration and air conditioning equipment. This legislative change, implemented under the Montreal Protocol, will affect the entire Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning industry, as Reclaimed R22 becomes obsolete and banned for use in any air conditioning and refrigeration system..

The ban is a SERVICE BAN ONLY; if the system is gas tight you DO NOT have to remove the Reclaimed R22 contained within it. However, be aware, that if (or when) the system leaks, the refrigerant will have to be replaced with a suitable alternative.

This phase out will mean Reclaimed R22 will no longer be available to purchase in the UK on or after 1st January 2015.

The importance of selecting air conditioning by continental regional

The importance of selecting air conditioning by continental regional (17/08/12) by Sean Handley Orion AC&R Limited

People consider air conditioning to be a generic piece of equipment that will work on any continent, a plug in and use device in many cases. The truth is that many air conditioning manufactures have a continental classification for their systems. Where some air conditioning manufacturers deal with sales on a global level it is essential that air conditioning comes equipped with the relevant devices to match the continent it serves I.e: If a air conditioning system is used in Northern Europe it will have to be equipped with to cope with the harsh winters.

Northern Hemisphere

Generally air conditioning for Western Europe, North Europe, North America are equipped with a protective and aquatic jacket around the compressor or a crank case heater. This is to protect the compressor from harsh frosts of winter when the unit may not be on for many months. If used for heat pump purposes then it must be able to produce heat in sub-zero temperatures. Most manufactures rate their equipment down to -15DegC for winter heat production. Sanyo did produce a CO2 system that was rated to work at -25DegC but it was to expensive to be popular. For the above continental regions most air conditioning heat pumps are rated at ambient temperature of 38DegC cooling and -15DegC heat pump function.

Africa and Southern Hemisphere

In Africa and the Middle east where temperatures can sour above 40 DegC the main players on the global air conditioning market (Daikin air conditioning and Mitsubishi Electric air conditioning) have rated their equipment to 45 DegC to cope with the heat. For this region the average  year round temperature is around 17 DegC with obvious highs and lows. The Air conditioning system has the extremes of weather to cope with.

Popular European Brands

Popular air conditioning brands in Europe are Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, Daikin and LG with little impact from the US brands except for commercial equipment such as roof top chillers (Trane and Carrier). There are the cheaper split type systems which are Chinese manufactured and come with no protection for winter or high temperature environments. These systems are generally low quality and past experience shows they have a life span of around 7 years.

Summery

Buy air conditioning systems that match your climate and continental requirements. If you are using air conditioning in extremes of weather only use a quality manufacturer. The budget systems have no protection so are only good for occasional use.

New Scam Targets The Most Vulnerable Of Them All

Has anyone heard of the new scam that is affecting African men? It basically involves many of the social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin. The scammers are targeting the most vunrable of them all, black african males.

By posing as a white European female who can offer a new love and life for them in Europe. The scammers lure their victim in with an initail contact saying they find them attractive, after going through a series of scripts designed to extract money from the victim, the sudo female then says she wants him to move to her country and that she works within imigration and can get a passport for a small fee and organise travel from her end because it is cheaper to do so. The victim is then asked to do a bank transfer for $4000 to a certain bank account after which they never see or hear from the female again. This is a callous scam that targets the poorest and most vulnerable of them all, If you know of anyone who has been scammed please email us so we can update this page.

Daikin air conditioning oil-free centrifugal chiller range for increased energy efficiency and reliability

Daikin Europe N.V. announces the launch of EWWD~FZ, a new centrifugal chiller range that uses oil-free compressors featuring magnetic bearings. This compressor technology not only eliminates the need for oil as lubricant and the associated maintenance and reliability issues, but also contributes to making this range one of the most energy efficient on the market.

Oil-free operation improves reliability and efficiency

Oil-free magnetic bearings allow for a simplified design and increased reliability. Friction is eliminated, as is the need for additional devices such as oil pumps, resulting in reduced maintenance and greater reliability. Vibration and sound levels are also reduced significantly, allowing the units to be used in sound sensitive environments.

The magnetic bearing system and other technologies present in the oil-free compressor make it one of the most efficient compressors on the market today. Moreover, the compressor’s integrated variable frequency drive, together with a flooded type evaporator, provides outstanding partial load efficiency, adding to the energy savings (EER up to 6.0 and ESEER up to 9.60). Integrated soft start functionality also greatly reduces start-up current requirements.

Broad range of industrial applications

The EWWD~FZ range is available in 6 sizes (single circuit, 1 or 2 compressors) with cooling capacities from 320 to 1,050 kW. The units include on-board monitoring and diagnostics, and can be easily integrated with external control systems such as building management systems and sequencing panels. The units are available with a variety of options making them suitable for a broad range of requirements and applications.
