The Panasonic air conditioning ECOi high efficiency, high output solution for chilled and hot water production. Ideal for residential, commercial and industrial hydronic applications which require high efficiency, high power output water heating and cooling. The Panasonic ECOi Water Heat Exchanger (WHE) indoor unit heats or cools the water or sub glycol mix to the set temperature via the external heat pump outdoor chiller condensing unit. Operation and control of the ECOi water chiller / heater is easily set with the easy to use and renowned CZ-RTC4 timer remote control and with a Wi-Fi control option, and many other commercial / industrial control options.

The Panasonic air conditioning ECOi has a energy-efficient capacity control system which moderates the inverter control outdoor unit and the unique 4 way valve which operates with a counter-flow fluid circulation in heating and cooling fluid circulation on both lines of the refrigerant flow which optimizes efficiency. The stainless steel plate heat exchanger with anti-freeze protection control and a optimized heat exchanger design to increase drastically the heat transfer efficiency. Liquid receiver to outperform the functionality of the WHE and long pipe run projects. The new range of Panasonic ECOi water chillers and heaters include the new electrical panel with advanced control algorithm, this includes a auto change-over option between heating and cooling operation where required with a 1-2 DegC drift meaning a set temperature can be linear whatever the users application requires.

Using river water to heat a river boat?

River water can be utilised to heat a boat and in the past systems using copper coils in the water have been used in conjunction with heat pumps. However, rules and regulations and the lack of available manufactured equipment have made this type of system less attractive.




Pumping river water through a heat pump can give very good results, but heat pump units require water at temperatures above 5 to 8°C (varying depending on type). Whilst delivering very high-efficiencies for much of the time, this system may fail to operate in the middle of winter during lower temperatures- just when you need the most heat, so a back-up heat source is usually advisable.

Oxygen and contaminants in the river water may also be a concern in some circumstances, causing pump failure and possibly a system refrigerant leak. But don't let me put you off; this system can give excellent results if installed correctly.

For those lucky enough to have a spring, this is a much more stable and better heat source. Its an opportunity not to be overlooked, offering excellent efficiencies. Again, acidity and impurities in the water can sometimes make its use prohibitive, but some heat pump units will tolerate ‘corrosive’ water (some Dimplex models etc). A possible alternative is to use an intermediate heat exchanger in such circumstances. However, the added temperature drop and necessary extra pump can reduce the performance considerably.

The water source should ideally be fairly close to the property, and should not require pumping up any significant height or the power for pumping it may detract from the energy savings. Having said that, water could be taken over considerable distances if the pipe diameter is big enough, especially in a downward direction. It is a relatively simple exercise to calculate the pump power required (if any) to get the water to and through the heat pump unit.

Permission should be sought from the relevant authorities as an abstraction licence may be needed.

DURATECH® heat pumps utilize the sun’s free heat by collecting and absorbing energy from the outside air. This energy is then transferred to the pool water. Your existing pool pump circulates the water through the heater and warms the pool. The unit contains a fan that draws in outside air and directs it over the surface of the EVAPORATOR (energy collector). The liquid refrigerant within the EVAPORATOR coil absorbs the heat from the outside air and the refrigerant becomes a gas. The warm gas passes through the compressor where it is compressed to form a very hot gas, which then passes through the CONDENSOR (water heat exchanger). It is here that the heat exchange occurs as the hot gas gives up the heat to the cooler swimming pool water circulating through the coil. The pool water becomes warmer and the hot gas is cooling down as it flows through the CONDENSOR coil, returns to its liquid form and, after passing through the expansion valve, the whole process begins again. The use of a highly efficient, low sound rotary or scroll compressor, a low noise fan and an oversized heat exchanger, makes the unit to be extremely quiet in operation. Example: the DURA 8 at 10m distance gives only 32 db(A). The Dura range comes in two formats the standard and Dura+ range, the key differences being the Dura+ range will work down to a lower outside temperature -10*c and have a higher COP range over their operating temperature.
